MOM AT MY AGE
by Gwen Elwood.

When my mom was young,
(Or so she said)
She never minded
Going to bed.

She always liked
To take a bath--
And could not wait
To study math.

And spinach was
Her favorite food--
She really claimed
It tasted good!

She told me that
She'd rarely cry,
And usually
Stop asking "WHY?"

She'd do what
Her mom told her to,
And rarely ever
Spilled the glue.

And when she played
She stayed real clean
And hardly ever
Would act mean.

She said she never
Acted wild.
In fact, she was
The perfect child.

Sometimes I think,
Can this be true
That Mom did what
She said she'd do?

(And I wonder if
When I'm old as well,
I'll tell my children
the same tale?)
