(In which dvb weighs in on a very important current scientific discourse.)
In my line of work — software — we sometimes go on about how important names are. But our worlds are so tiny. The name of a thing in a software project is of deep and profound consequence to… oh, say, between 2 and a hundred people, depending on the size of the project. And that’s it. It’s a closed (and brief) world.
We have it easy. It’s those scientists trying to agree on names and classifications of the observable world who have it rough.

Ayup.
