omino code blog

We need code. Lots of code.

Astronaut: Rebranded

In the third grade I learned that you could have not just square roots, but cube roots or fourth roots or any roots at all! (Probably from my father, not from school.) And I came up with my first logo, based on my initials: the d’th root of b.

Logos and branding… why do they matter? Why do we say things like “That would be a good name for a band”? Or “That would be a good name for a web site”? Why call a room in your dorm “The Analytical Society”? Indeed, these are fascinating, deep questions about the human mind, our social nature and herd instinct, and so forth. But it’s not about code (at least not the kind I write) so it’s off topic, isn’t it?

Anyway, to cut a short and pointless story even shorter, I moved this blog from subservientastronaut.com over to omino.com. But the blog is still subservientastronaut. On omino.com. I changed the banner text and everything.

Just thought you should know.

P.S. I also reworked the home page of omino.com using a Perl html preprocessor I wrote, called omhpp.

/src/omhpp/omhpp.cgi in new window download /src/omhpp/omhpp.cgi to file hide /src/omhpp/omhpp.cgi

Wow! I love that “first logo” – it’s “radical.”

I also really love the the new omino.com design. really captures everything nerdy and good about you :) And in the sidebar the details about Omino sort of reminded me that I’m something of an honorary ominite, having lived at the prestigious 56 Glenview location :)

Hmm, probably should make up an ominite registry…!

without brand, you wouldn’t remember what Warhol looked like or be able to tell the difference between your fruity computer and my keiretsu product with a CPU inside.

oh, i dont know. what do you think?
